How to Create a Beautiful Tribute with A Life Portrait

Creating a Life Portrait is a simple, heartfelt way to preserve and celebrate the memories that matter most. Whether you're honoring a loved one, capturing life's milestones, or cherishing the story of a beloved pet, we've made the process easy — even during life's most emotional times. In just a few steps, you can create a beautiful tribute that will last for generations. Here’s how to get started:

Step 1: Create an Account

Sign Up for A Life Portrait

To begin, head to A Life Portrait and click Sign Up.

You can use your email and a password, or choose a faster option like signing in with Google. We don’t store your password or personal data — and you can always manage your information under Settings.

Step 2: Verify Your Email (if using email/password)

If you sign up with an email, you’ll receive a quick verification message.

Verify your email by clicking the link in your inbox -- then you're ready to begin.

Note: Sometimes it may be sent to you spam/junk folder, so be sure to check there.

Step 3: Add Your First Portrait

Create a New Life Portrait

Once you're in, you'll be able to click Add Portrait

This will automatically give you access to your first life portrait with our free tier.

This is where you'll enter the name, birthday of the person or pet you're honoring -- or yourself, if you're preserving your own story.

Choose a clear photo for the profile -- ideally one where the person you're celebrating is the main focus.

This helps us organize photos more accurately later.

Add a name, date of birth, and a profile photo to begin your tribute.

Step 4: Let the Platform Do the Work

Upload Photos -- We'll Handle the Rest

Now it’s time to upload your memories.

Click Add Photos and Select your favorite photos — our platform will automatically organize them by year, group them by people and places, and begin building your timeline.

Upload your photos and watch your story begin to take shape automatically.

Step 5: Create your Life in Review Video

Once your photos are uploaded and your portrait is set, it’s time to preview the Life in Review video. Click the Create Preview button to see how your photos and memories come together in a personalized video tribute.

When you’re happy with the result, click Create Movie to create a movie that is visible on your tribute page.

Preview your Life in Review, then create the video when you're ready to share.

Step 6: Preview your Tribute Website & Share

You can preview your tribute website at any time to see how everything is coming together. When you're ready, click Preview Page to view your site — and share the link with loved ones whenever you feel it’s right.

Preview how your memories will appear on your tribute page.
